Sprint Supremacy: Lando Norris Clinches Pole in High-Stakes Shootout

The Miami International Autodrome tested the drivers in Sprint Qualifying with track temperatures of 52 Degrees and high humidity, making tyre management crucial for this shootout. We saw both Aston Martins eliminated after Lance Stroll suffered a huge flat-spot in Turn 17, while teammate Fernando Alonso struggled with rear end stability, leading to his early exit. Both Cadillac’s struggled with rear-end stability in the Miami heat, leading to their exits. We also saw Esteban Ocon and Lawson succumb to the SQ1 elimination zone after Lawson encountered problems with Alexander Albon.

Lindblad, Sainz, Albon, Bearman and Hulkenberg and Bortoleto were lost in SQ2, with Bearman and Lindblad not making an appearance on track until the final minute, resulting in them not being able to escape into SQ3. Hulkenberg was 0.025 seconds from making it into the top-10 shootout, but ultimately Pierre Gasly knocked him off the final rung into being eliminated in 11th place.

That leaves Gasly, Hadjar, Colapinto, Hamilton, Russell, Verstappen, Leclerc, Piastri, Antonelli and Norris as the final shootout. Nobody entered the track until the final two minutes, turning the final Sprint Qualifying session into a one-lap race to pole position. Russell was the first to clinch provisional pole until Leclerc knocked him off to take the top spot. Norris came flying around the corner however to tale his first pole position of the season, and first as a World Champion with a 1:27.869. Both Antonelli and Piastri were making their way around the Miami International Autodrome to try and knock Norris off pole, but ultimately placing second and third respectively, with Antonelli being 0.222 seconds off the top spot.
